I’m being held hostage

…..by my stuff.

A blog I love, Godammit I’m Mad, recently posted about this “clutter” issue. (Go have a read, this blogger is fabulously witty.)

For the whole year I have been on a mission to simplify my life and surroundings. How is it possible to tidy for 6 months and still feel surrounded by clutter!? I considered myself quite the tidying whizz, right now my confidence is a bit flattened.

I don’t seem to be alone in this, just try Googling “minimalism/minimalistic living/decluttering/capsule wardrobe”. This is big. It’s a friggin’ revolution. Consumerism is suffocating us. I came across a quote that I thought was a good start to give my latent minimalist persona a kick in the butt.

That’s good. But not good enough. Too much room for error there, I’d end up keeping too many “useful” items just because they might be useful one day.

Enter Marie Kondo, bestselling author of “The life-changing magic of tidying up“. I believe in the magic. The magic is real. My closet is now a mere shadow of what it once was. It is a happy, concise place where everything is friends with everything else. Anyway, Back to Marie, I haven’t even received my book yet. My house needs help. ASAP. Her brilliant mantra is as follows:

Now that leaves little space for error, for me at least. It’s so straightforward. So black and white. It resonates with my extreme personality.

How about you? Feeling like a captive in your own home? Join the club, join the revolution! Let me know if you make it out alive.

I’m reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up too and am also inspired to simplify my life, but I’m like St. Augustine when it comes right down to it – not right now, maybe later. Congratulations on cleaning out your closet!

My closet is but a fraction of my problem, but it’s a start. Good luck on your tidying mission, I hope you manage to get stuck in and make some changes 😉

Kev! I’m so chuffed you’re reading my blog! You need to read more on capsule wardrobes, i’ve read so many posts, I actually think there was one lady from Chicago who worked around the crazy seasons….anyway, there is a way, I promise 😉

Gotta say, I feel your pain! My house is so full of…stuff! I fully expect to see myself on an episode of “Hoarders” sometime in the near future. Thanks for visiting my blog 🙂

Ha ha! Don’t let it get to that 😛 Let Marie Kondo help you. My place is starting to feel so much more livable and relaxed.
Thanks for visiting my blog too x
