Butt – Firmly in gear

Enter, Hilda the Hippopotamus.

It’s high time I started contributing around here. My poor husband has a lot of stress on his shoulders. My holiday is over. If by holiday you can count having time to do fun things like make knitted blankets and paint cats.

Since I actually do have some skills centred around the world of 3D animation I might as well use them. I refuse to go back to real-grown-up work because I HATE the advertising industry.

In South Africa that’s where the animation work is. It’s a vapid, superficial soul-destroying place, jam-packed with pompous self important “creatives” with big beards and wooden framed spectacles (or glasses with plain glass, ’cause you know, you have to be “with it” even if your eyes are fully functioning)*

Anyway, back to business. My husband and I have a little summin’ summin’ on the side which we haven’t had enough time to focus on properly. It’s a “shop” in a 3D market place. Think Etsy, but for 3D models and animation clips. The “Etsy” in this case is Turbo Squid. Don’t ask. Us 3D types can be a little…otherwise. What’s in a name anyway!?

This is where old Hilda comes in. Inside sources have informed us that hippos are in short supply so we best hop on the train.

One ticket please (it’s just me for now).

Hilda’s progress is slow. She is only two days old and comprises of a mere few hours of work due to a very active toddler who wont let Mommy sit at her PC unless said child is allowed to climb on the desk, bang the keyboard and lick the monitor. It makes working a tad bit difficult. And slow.

Some morning "Hearthstone" gaming 😄

(That isn’t me with the beard. This is the closest pictorial evidence I have to demonstrate my plight).

To be continued. (Hilda, unlike the blanket, takes quite high priority which should hopefully guarantee her completion before Christmas. So the “continued” part isn’t a lie, unintentional as it may have been last time).

Oh! One more thing. While perusing the vast library of Google images I couldn’t help but be drawn into looking at pictures of baby hippos. Once Hilda is complete she will “give birth” to a potamus (that’s what a hippo is before it’s a hippopotamus. We’re very scientific around here). That cuteness NEEDS to be utilised.

*No offence to wooden spectacle wearing nice people, I’m just describing the stereotype here. I even considered them, the spectacles, but it’s allowed, ’cause I’m nice too.

Just longing to see more about Hilda. I like hippos. True, they can run faster than I can, but they make amends by having bigger bums.

BTW, I love the expression on your youngster’s face in front of the PC. I wish I could look as enthused in front of mine.

      Hahahha! I like that 😉

I’m worried I have a future gamer on my hands. I don’t want a child who doesn’t want to go out and play. My husband is a bad influence 😛

You are right to be worried. 🙂 I see your husband’s influence already. Mouth, eyebrows, and I suspect the nose may come. Not to mention the air of concentration. If you want to be a role model, you better get in quick!

Haha, she definitely has my nose, so it will stay small 😛
She does have his hands, feet and height though.
I’m going to crack that whip if gaming starts taking over her childhood. She has the rest of her adulthood for that 😉

      Thanks 🙂
My little “gnome” is spellbound by Hearthstone. She has been watching my husband play for most of her little life. My husband has always been a gamer so she’s probably genetically inclined 😉
